The West Michigan Youth Ballet Creative Team consisting of Stephen Sanford (Artistic Director/Choreographer), Laura Berman (Choreographer), Heather Cassady (Head Costumer), Carola Gulick (Sets & Props) and Jay Batzner (Musical Compilation) have been hard at work designing an all-new original work based on L. Frank Baum’s book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. This Wizard of Oz project started over a year ago as the WMYB Board of Directors looked to broaden and enhance the organization’s spring offerings. While there are many full-length ballets in existence today, not many are appropriate for our cast and audience. By investing in creating an original work, we are able to tailor every aspect of the performance from the choreography to the music to the costumes to the messages given to the audience.
